"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." -- Martin Luther King, Jr.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Alpha Kappa Psi different from other fraternities?

Unlike general or social fraternities, whose activities and functions are chiefly social in nature, Alpha Kappa Psi focuses primarily on professionalism and a common interest in finance, accounting, management and business administration. We are open to ALL majors and encourage a diverse group of students in expanding our network. However, like other fraternities, our members value brotherhood just as deeply during both the good and hard times. Aside from professional development, Alpha Kappa Psi also prides itself in active involvement in philantropic events, exchanges, and other campuswide and off-campus functions. We selectively limit our membership to students based on their individual potentiality for future success, both personally and professionally.

What is the mission of Alpha Kappa Psi?

Our fundamental mission is to develop well-trained, ethical, resourceful, experienced business leaders.

What is rush?

Rush is a two week-long commitment-free process in which various events invite potential members to meet the active and alumni brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi. It also allows these "rushees" to get a personal preview for what Alpha Kappa Psi is all about. All events are free and open to curious students of all majors, and there is no obligation to join by attending rush. Alpha Kappa Psi holds rushes every spring and fall.

What is a bid?

A bid is a privileged invitation to pledge for membership in Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity.

What is 'pledging'?

If you accept a bid, you will take part in a nine to ten-week long process that will test your skills and refine your weaknesses. When you are pledging, you are not yet a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, but you will experience what it takes to be one. It is during this intensive period that you and your fellow pledges will learn the true meaning of brotherhood, professionalism and teamwork. Pledge period also provides the opportunity for members to comprehensively evaluate you and your fellow pledges based on effort, accomplishment, dedication and improvement.

What is the time committment to pledge?

Many of our brothers would compare our pledge program as another three unit course taken at San Diego State. Your time committment to pledge our fraternity is solely up to you. Your experience in pledging depends on what you put into our program. It is an opportunity for you to challenge yourself and we strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to learn and grow both personally and professionally.

Do you haze?

Alpha Kappa Psi upholds a strict national policy against all forms of hazing.

What is a pledge class?

A pledge class is a group of motivated individuals that consists of you and your fellow pledges (those who have also accepted bids for the semester). Together, the class will display its skills, plan and execute events, and complete various projects. The pledge class is structured much like the fraternity and also a corporation, but on a smaller scale, with distinct committees, executive positions, etc.
