Alpha Kappa Psi:

Why AKPsi?

Alpha Kappa Psi was founded in 1904 at New York University on the principles of promoting institutions of business education, developing future leaders and fostering appreciation for higher ideals in business. Today, the fraternity has grown to become the oldest and largest professional business fraternity in the world. With nearly 240,000 initiated members and more than 200 chapters, Alpha Kappa Psi is among one of the 20 largest college fraternities. The men and women of Alpha Kappa Psi reflect the world’s diversity and are united by a common interest in business.

Experience

The main focus of Alpha Kappa Psi is to provide leadership development, personal and professional training and the fundamental ingredient higher education misses—experience. Through professional development, educational programs, community service and a hands-on application of formal education, Alpha Kappa Psi students use the business skills they are taught in the classroom to acquire life skills such as the art of compromise, consensus building, project management, team building and networking.

Friendship

Members form meaningful, lifelong friendships with a multitude of people, from fellow students to local business leaders and faculty. The bond of brotherhood unites members regardless of age, location and experience. The importance of social skills is emphasized with a variety of activities. As a result, a great deal of personal growth and satisfaction is achieved which carries well into the business world.

Professional Development

When you join Alpha Kappa Psi, you join an elite group of professionals who are committed to keeping their skills sharp and careers on track. This is accomplished through professional programs at various levels. Fraternity programs include regional Success Institutes, The Academy, Case Competition and the College of Leadership. Such professional development, when marked to employers, will set you apart from your peers.

Mu Sigma Chapter

Mu Sigma is the San Diego State University chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, the nation’s oldest professional business fraternity. Formed in 1986, we have been consistently recognized as one of the premier chapters in the fraternity. Our mission statement is simple:
“Mu Sigma creates and develops leaders, both in ourselves and in our community, by focusing on the core values of our fraternity; brotherhood, knowledge, integrity, service and unity. We provide opportunities to gain and exceed the experience necessary to be successful in business and in life.”

Chapter Events and Programs:

Mu Sigma Consulting

Mu Sigma Consulting is a pro-bono, student consulting team servicing local, San Diego non-profit organizations with management, marketing, and financial consulting services.

One Wish at a Time Charity Golf Tournament

The Mu Sigma Chapter takes pride in its partnership with The Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego. The One Wish at a Time Golf Tournament is an opportunity for the members of the Mu Sigma Chapter to create a life changing experience for a child facing a life threatening illness.

Annual Networking Event

Times are rough and jobs are becoming even harder to come by. The Mu Sigma chapter has made it a mission to connect local San Diego businesses and professionals with the students at SDSU. The event is not just a job fair, but an event to educate students how to properly network and meet professional from our community.

Annual Faculty Appreciation Breakfast

The SDSU faculty is often an untapped resource that students do not take advantage of. Whether it is a letter of recommendation for graduate school or a reference for a job opportunity, the relationships students form with their faculty are extremely valuable. In order to provide students with the opportunity to network with their professors outside the classroom, we host an appreciation breakfast where attendees get free breakfast.

The Mu Sigma Foundation

The Mu Sigma Foundation is an scholarship foundation started in Fall 2011 by our chapter members to aid San Diego State University, local community college, and local high school students with scholarships so they may seek higher education and enrich our community.
